DGP renews call to Sabyasachi to give up arms


--emphasises on women’s security in State

BHUBANESWAR: “We have been telling Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda to return to the mainstream, but he is not responding. If he doesn’t return to the mainstream, we will try to nab him,” said Director General of Police Prakash Mishra to the media on the occasion of the 5th foundation day of Commissionerate Police here on Wednesday.

Attending as the chief guest of the function, Mishra said that they have the capability to run many anti-Maoist operations at a time in the State among which Operation Sabyasachi is one. He reiterated his Rourkela speech here and appealed Sabyasachi to leave the Maoist camp.  

The DGP said that they are giving importance to strengthen general sense of security to create a friendly and normal environment in the society as a result a person can feel safe in his locality. He stated that they would try to create a safe environment for women and proper investigation into a case.

On modernisation of the Commissionerate Police, he said that they would engage 700 more people to solve the staff shortage problem. The staff would be brought from auxiliary force. Bike patrolling and PCR van patrolling would be engaged on the outskirts of the city like Tamando and Kalinganagar.

Mishra also hinted that they would conduct raids on off-liquor shops to close the shop in time, illegal liquor vending in dhabas and to conduct raids on porn CDs. They would also start updating of profiles of the auto rickshaw drivers, he added.

On technical help to the police, the DGP stated that CCTVs would be installed in the capital city this year. He also stated that the Commissionerate Police would launch the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project on a pilot basis from mid January.
