--Vizag women body protests rape incident

BHUBANESWAR: The condition of the Rayagada gang-rape victim, who was shifted to Care hospital in Vishakhapatnam on Monday evening, is stable, doctors said. The treatment is on and she was responding, said Care hospital surgeon Dr PR Prasad. Meanwhile, State Commission for Women (SCW) chairperson Lopamudra Buxipatra visited the hospital to meet the victim and to inquiry about victim’s health condition.

The girl is undergoing treatment in intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital after being denied admission by the Seven Hills hospital in the city of Andhra Pradesh. Dr Prasad said that they were giving all sorts of treatment under the guidance of plastic surgery, critical case specialists and gynecologists. If needed, they would do plastic surgery on the burn parts of the body, he added.

After meeting the victim and her doctor, SCW chairperson Buxipatra said that the health condition of the girl was stable. The treatment is on and the State Government would bear the cost of the girl’s treatment, she added.

The echo of the protest in Rayagada town also heard in Visakhapatnam. Protesting the Rayagada gang-rape, Visakhapatnam women organisations staged demonstration in the port city and strongly condemned the incident. They demanded security for the women while shouting slogans.

Tribal women in Rayagada’s Jayarampura village began worshipping the god for the speedy recovery of the victim. On the other hand, the workers of Kalinga Sena have started collecting money from the locals for the treatment of the girl. Social activist Rutuparna Mohanty visited Rayagada and met the Investigation Officer to file the charge sheet within the stipulated time.

The State Government on Monday decided to shift the 16-year old rape victim to the port city as her condition continued to deteriorate. The victim, a resident of Anjipetta area in Rayagada town, had attempted self-immolation on Thursday after she was allegedly gang-raped by three youths on the previous day.
