BHUBANESWAR: The Nikhila Utkal Gruharakhi Mahasangha
(NUGM), an association of Home Guards in the State, called off strike on
Saturday after getting assurance from the Government. It was announced by NUGM
president Sanjay Kumar Behera following the discussion with deputy secretary of
the Home Department.
As many as 12,000 home guards across the State sat in indefinite
dharna in front of the State Assembly here demanding hike in pay and
restoration of the jobs of the home guards who were allegedly removed from
their job without any reason.
The home guards demanded the
Government to increase their pay and additional allowances like TA and DA. They
also demanded separation of the home guards from Odisha Police and made an
independent entity.
The deputy secretary in a letter said that the matter is under
consideration of the State Government and appropriate decision would be taken
shortly.
“If the Government does not
fulfill their demands before March this year, we will again sit in dharna and
resume agitation,” said Behera.
