Saroj Dehury conferred on Jagruti Samman



BHUBANESWAR: Renowned Odissi dancer and Guru Saroj Kumar Dehury on Monday conferred on Jagruti Samman in a colourful evening at Sailshree Vihar in city for his contribution towards the development of Odissi dance in the State and abroad.

Jagruti, an institute of art, dance and music celebrating its 15th annual function here awarded Dehury in presence of many distinguished guests including eminent Odissi dancers Kum Kum Mohanty and Muktilata Pal. Besides Dehury, Niranjan Sahu was awarded for Mardal.

“It indeed a great pleasure for acknowledging my dance and contribution towards the growth of Odissi dance. The award gives me inspiration to work hard for the development of my culture in the State and abroad,” said Dehury.

A student of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyala, Saroj Dehury had earlier been awarded with prestigious Nupura Samman and Nutryashree Samman. He is now teaching Odissi dance in Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan by opening schools.
