BMC proposes to add 2 revenue villages, 21 Panchayats


BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday proposed in its meeting to add two revenue villages and 21 Panchayats to make the capital as Metro city which will help the existed corporation to get more fund like other metro like cities.

According to the BMC officials, now the population of the city is 8.30 lakh. If the BMC adds proposed villages and panchayats, the population of the city would cross 10 lakh, the officials said in the meeting.

From August 1, the BMC will start sanitation drive in the city and the drive will continue till August 15. Garbage will be cleared from the wards with cooperation of Public Health Department, the BMC officials decided in the meeting. During the sanitation drive, the BMC will clear garbage from four Wards per day, they said.

To monitor all the sanitation drive, the BMC will appoint a person to keep eye on the work. In the meeting, some Corporators were not happy with the presentations of the invited NGOs who took much time to present there in the meeting which delayed the process of the meeting. During the meeting, an NGO made a presentation on sewerage treatment.

“We have given importance on some basic infrastructures like sanitation, road, drainage, light system and water. We will clean lift the garbage from different Wards of the city before August 31,” said Bhubaneswar Mayor Anant Narayan Jena.

Among others, BMC Commissioner Vishal Kumar Dev, Corporators of different Wards in the city, BMC officials and NGO officials were present.
