Samajwadi Party urges CM to establish a Martyrs’ Memorial in State


BHUBANESWAR: The Samajwadi Party Odisha State Committee on the occasion of Kargil Divas urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to establish a Martyrs’ Memorial (Amar Jawan Jyoti) at the capital city in the light of Amar Jawan Jyoti, New Delhi. It will inspire the next generation regarding the sacrifice of our heroes for the mother land, the party said.

India won the Kargil War on July 26, 1999 where 527 soldiers laid down their lives and more than 13 hundred were injured. Among them there were many Odia soldiers also. Today we are observing the Kargil Divas (Victory Day) across the country and pay tributes to those heroes who laid down their lives for our mother land. Our State should pay its tribute it’s heroes along with the Kargil martyrs, said the Party.

Besides the Martyr’s Memorial, the party suggested the Governor and the Chief Minister should pay respect to the martyrs on the day every year along with other dignitaries, the promises made by the State to the martyrs’ families must be fulfilled immediately and to establish a War Memorial library where their valour, courage and sacrifice in action to be displayed in a digital form.
