Forgery takes place in Gajapati SBI main branch


PARLAKHEMUNDI: A big forgery case has taken place in the State Bank of India’s main branch of Gajapati district here. Rs 14, 50,000 were withdrawn as loan from the branch in the name of 29 people including two dead persons.

The forgery came to light on Monday when 27 people from Odaling village of Kainpur Gram Panchayat under Rayagad block in the district met branch manager and told him about the forgery. During the conversation with the manager the villagers said that they did not know about any loan withdrawn from the bank. When they got notice from the bank to pay the money, they got surprised first.

According to the bank officials, in 2010, some people had withdrawn Rs 14, 50,000 in the name of 29 persons. Per head they had withdrawn Rs 50,000 by forging the documents. Even money was withdrawn in the name of Ghasi Karjee and Raghunath Badbhuyan who died five years ago.

The villagers demanded a thorough investigation into the forgery and money loot from the bank. When the branch manager came to know about the forgery on Monday, he said the bank authority would take appropriate steps after investigation.
