SUCI opposes shifting of SCB paediatric ward

CUTTACK: The Cuttack district committee of Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) on Thursday strongly opposed the decision of shifting of the pediatric ward of the SCB Medical College and Hospital here to the Cuttack Sishu Bhavan (Paediatric Hospital). The party workers led by district committee secretary Khageswar Sethy staged demonstration in front of the SCB superintendent’s office here protesting the decision.

The SUCI members said the Pediatric treatment involves critical consultation with different branches like Endocrinology, Haematology, Immunology, Cardiology and others and it is highly unscientific and erroneous to take such type of decisions on the part of the Government. It is also a well known fact that a Pediatric ward should always be attached to Gynecology department for new born baby care, they said adding, the shifting will also cause a lot of problems to the Medical students as they have to cover more than 5 kms in a city like Cuttack for academic process.

Among other demands the SUCI demanded the State Government should appoint senior residents, Assistant Professors in all the Government Medical colleges immediately and special care should be given for improvement of the sanitary system of different hospitals. Later the SUCI members handed over a memorandum to the Health and Family Welfare Minister urging upon him to withdraw the decision.
