Cuttack cancer institute to be upgraded


CUTTACK: Acharya Harihar Cancer Institute at Cuttack will be upgraded and seats along with employees will be increased, informed Central health secretary Prasanna Kumar Pradhan while attending a review meeting here on Sunday. It will be an apex institute within the country, Pradhan added.

In the review meeting, the health secretary said Rs 200 crore would be sanctioned during the 12th five-year plan to upgrade the institute. Now the cancer institute has 320 beds which will be increased to 600, he added. The Centre and State Government would provide 80 per cent and 20 per cent fund respectively for the start the work.

As the institute caters the need of the people from Odisha, Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand, the modernisation of the institute would help them, the Union Health Secretary said.

Recently, the State Government on June 25 signed a MoU with HLL Lifecare to improve healthcare infrastructure at the cancer institute. However, keeping the rising number of cancer patients at this Institute, the State Government had decided to upgrade the existing infrastructure of the Centre with the installation of state-of-the-art equipment for better treatment of the patients.     


Odisha Govt signs MoUs with HLL Lifecare for health care facilities

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Monday signed MoUs with HLL Lifecare to improve healthcare infrastructure at three state-run medical colleges and Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Institute at Cuttack.

HLL Lifecare signed four different MoUs here in presence of senior health department officials. While one MoU was signed between HLL Lifecare and director of the Cuttack based Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Institute, separate MoUs had been signed with the principals and deans of three different medical colleges at Cuttack, Berhampur and Burla.

The Odisha government has a proposal to make Acharya Harihara Regional Cancer Centre in Cuttack as a Centre of Excellence during the 12th Plan period. In view of this, the state government will submit a draft proposal to the tune of Rs 150 crore to the Centre very soon, sources in the health and family welfare department said. However, keeping the rising number of cancer patients at this Centre, the state government has decided to upgrade the existing infrastructure of the Centre with the installation of state-of-the-art equipment for better treatment of the patients. On this regard the state government signed a MoU with HLL Lifecare on Monday.

Apart from infrastructure development of the hospital, HLL Lifecare will set up two state-of-the-art Linear Accelerators, one simulator and one spiral Citi machine at the Centre. The company, after furnishing all arrangements will hand over the Hospital to the concerned authorities. This apart, HLL Lifecare will also set up a MRI scan machine at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and VSS Medical College and Hospital in Burla, on PPP mode. The authorities of these two medical colleges and hospital will provide the required space for installation of this machine at their respective premises.

The patients will pay fewer amounts for MRI scanning at these hospitals as compared to other private hospitals which charge more money. If the number of scanning is more than 40 per day, HLL Lifecare will provide 12 percent of the fee charged from the patients to the Swasthya Vikas Samiti of the concerned medical colleges and hospital.

Besides, the company will also open canteen, medicine outlets and hospital equipment store at the three premiere government medical colleges and hospitals including SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for which the hospital authorities will provide necessary arrangements.
