Dalit Mahamanch demands CBI probe into Pipili gangrape case

BHUBANESWAR: Demanding CBI inquiry into the Pipili gang rape case, the Milita Dalit Mahamanch (MDM) staged a massive rally in front of the State Assembly here on Wednesday. The Mahamanch alleged that the State Government is responsible for the death of victim Babina Behera. Some of the dalit women were arrested by the police from the dharna place.

Thousands of MDM members came with a procession from Master Canteen to Lower PMG flaunting placards bearing slogans against the State Government’s inaction to protect dalits. The members even demanded stringent action against the culprits in connection with the Kujang dalit woman stripping case. Later, a delegation of six members handed over a memorandum to the Chief Minister.

The Mahamanch said that when Schedule Caste Commission chairman held the doctors responsible after meeting Babina in the SCB Medical College Hospital, she did not open her eyes and her condition was gradually worsened and finally died creating suspicion in everybody’s mind. Why the experienced doctors of the Capital Hospital and the SCB Medical College Hospital had frequently injected anti-venoms into Babina’s body which closed all the paths to live, questioned the Dalit body.

The MDM alleged that when the High Court closed the matter by saying satisfied to free status report submitted by the hospital on June 19, just after one day when the people were busy in Ratha Yatra on June 21, she was declared dead. The Mahamanch apprehended the death of Babina Behera as a ‘Sarakari Murder’. Among others, Shaikh Abdul Waii, Amiya Pandav, Jayant Bhoi, Pratap Sahu, Mamata Behera and Manjulata Choudhury of the party took the lead of the rally.
