30ft breach created in Delta canal in city

BHUBANESWAR: The Delta canal embankment near Kalikhamma at Mancheswar on the outskirts of the city breached inundating vast areas of agricultural land and severely affecting communication between the city and Barang on Wednesday. The repairing works have been started by the concerned department after the incident.

According to the locals, the canal embankment breached due to lack of proper care. The breach affected the communication between the city and Barang on which the people of around 20 villages of Patia, Mancheswar and Barang area were depending, said the locals demanding, “The breach should be repaired immediately.”

“The embankment was not so weak and the condition was not alarming as we had inspected on Tuesday, but we are taking appropriate measures to repair the breach.
