More than hundred OSSTA teachers arrested

BHUBANESWAR: Following the Thursday’s violence at the Lower PMG, the incidence of face-off between the members of Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) teachers and the police on Friday created another scene without violence. More than hundred of teachers were arrested when they tried to enter by breaking the police barricade.

Demanding full grant to the block grant teachers and abolition of block grant system, hundreds of teachers led by the OSSTA came in a procession starting from the Master canteen to the Lower PMG and staged rally in front of the State assembly. After the rally, the teachers started trying to march towards the Assembly by breaking the police barricade.

Some of the teachers flaunted placards and uttered slogans by climbing on the barricades, but the protest was almost peaceful comparing Congress’s violent mob. Later morethan hundred teachers were arrested by the police.

“We would come again with huge mass and we untidely come to go to the jail. The Government has to prepare jails to keep thousands of high school and college teachers,” OSSTA secretary Raghunath Sahu.
