Now OD not OR in vehicle number plate


BHUBANESWAR: From Saturday onwards, the new vehicles would use the OD prefix instead OR in the number during registration. The numbers of already registered vehicles would remain unchanged, said Minister for Commerce and Transport Subrat Tarai while inaugurating the first OD number in a function at the Regional Transport Office here on Saturday.

According to the new rules, the transport vehicles would use the number plates having black letters printed on yellow background, while non-transport vehicles would use the number plates having black letters printed on white background. The designed, jig-jagged and abnormal printed letters of number plates would not be allowed, the rule said.

Tarai said that the owner of the vehicles would be given time for the change of designed number plates and for that an awareness drive would be launched for few days to make them aware about the recent change. Following the awareness campaign, the violators would be charged with fine from Rs 3,200 to 5,000, he added.

The new motor vehicles registration rules were officially inaugurated by Minister Tarai in a function at the local RTO here. He inaugurated the first vehicle registration number OD 02 0001 in the name of Sridhar Jena of the city.
