Go back Vedanta Company: LSA

BHUBANESWAR: The Government should blacklist the Vedanta Company and the company should leave Odisha without any hesitation, demanded Lok Shakti Abhiyan (LSA) convener Prafulla Samantara here on Tuesday. He also demanded that the Government to declare the Niyamgiri hill as national biodiversity heritage.

Samantara said Vedanta Company’s CEO Mukesh Kumar has been campaigning falsely to blackmail the State as well as the Central Government that he is going to close the Lanjigarh Alumina Plant which would affect thousands of employees but it is not a fact. It is only to pressurise and to influence the apex court of the country, because the State Government has gone to appeal for mines in favour of the company for which Niyamgiri has been banned, he added.

He alleged that the Vedanta’s Alumina Company is illegal because it violates the guidelines of the Ministry of Environment and Forest. When there are no mines for the production of one million tonne alumina, how the company could dare to expand six times more to produce, he questioned. The public hearing was illegal and the High Court had rejected its plea for expanding of its company, but the company has been trying to blackmail the State Government for mining, he alleged.
