Police yet to arrest culprits of Acharya Vihar murder case

BHUBANESWAR: Three days passed, but the Commissionerate Police are yet to arrest the culprits in connection with the murder of an elderly woman Jyoshna Devi and attack on her husband at Acharya Vihar in the city on Thursday night. Investigation into the matter is on and the police are interrogating different people who are directly connected with the family members.

Deceased Jyoshna Devi’s husband retired superintendent engineer Kunjabihari Panigrahy, who was brutally attacked by the miscreants, is going under treatment in a private hospital in city and his condition is very critical, doctors said. The only witness of the incident is in coma which added more challenge to the police to trace out the culprits.

The police have interrogated the hostel boys who were the tenants of Panigrahy. Even they have interrogated some other persons working in Panigrahy’s hostel. On Saturday the police had told the students, who were living in the hostel run by Panigrahy, to not to leave the hostel without notice. Investigation is continuing into the case, no arrest has been made so far in the case, the police sources said.

On the other hand, the members of the Acharya Vihar Development Council called a meeting to discuss about the security of the senior citizens living in the area. Some police officers and some retired elderly people were present in the meeting. President of the council said the police administration should give emphasis on the security of the senior citizens immediately otherwise they would take the issue into the street.

It may be noted that on Saturday the senior citizens living in the city alone met the Police Commissioner to discuss about their security. As their children are living outside, they are living alone and some anti-socials are taking benefit out of their loneliness.
