Molestation attempt: Girl succumbs to injuries at SCB medical


--Police arrests a person from city

BHUBANESWAR: The girl, who got severe injuries after an accident followed by chased away ruffians in the city, succumbed to injuries at the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack on Thursday. The Commissionerate Police arrested a person in connection with the case from Ghatikia area in the city.

According to sources, the girl Diptimayee Murmu from Baripada had come to the city to face an interview for a job on September 16. After finishing her interview, she was waiting to bus near the Mahima Ashram at Ghatikia in the evening to return her home. While she was talking with her friend, an engineering student living in the city, near the Ashram, five youths in three bikes came near to them and started giving comments on them. Even some of them harassed the girl.

Murmu’s friend started bike and left the place as soon as possible to save them from the ruffians, but the youths chased away them. The engineering student increased the speed of the bike to get rid of the hooligans, but unfortunately they faced a tragic accident near Kalinganagar square.

The Khandagiri police reached the spot and sent Murmu to the medical for her treatment, but she died on Thursday. The boy, who accompanied the girl, is going under treatment in the hospital. One person was arrested in the case. Investigation is on to trace out the ruffians, the police said.
