Commissionerate Police to strengthen security for senior citizens in city


BHUBANESWAR: Following the murder of an elderly woman and brutally attack on her husband in their Acharya Vihar residence here, the Commissionerate Police have started thinking about the security of the senior citizens living alone in the city. The Senior Citizen Security Cells would be strengthened very soon, said Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjeet Singh here on Thursday.

Singh suggested the senior citizens, who are living alone in the city, to come and register their names in the security cells of the police stations under the Commissionerate Police.
The scheme is continuing in every police station and they could take the opportunity of the facilities, he said, adding, “They would also inquiry about the numbers of private hostels in the city.”

Though some police stations under the Commissionerate Police have Senior Citizen Security Cells, but some other police stations in the city don’t have the cells, sources said. Still now more than four hundred senior citizens have registered their names in the cells of different police stations in the city.
